DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

The cultural association Musica Ricercata suggested the music- historical itinerary “La Via del sale” (“The salt route”), in order to introduce the public to a historical vision of our music, starting from its origins and, at the same time, to promote the places of Tuscany area which protrudes for their natural beauty, for a more human rhythm of life and for the art treasures which witness the historic- cultural importance they played in the past. The itinerary concerned 13 Municipalities of the Provinces of Grosseto and Siena, and it wanted to carry out, in the framework of this initiative, a more specific and particular intervention named “La Toscana nel Medioevo- La Via Francigena” (“Tuscany in the Middle Ages-The Via Francigena”). In summer 1998 and 1999, the Association Musica Ricercata, together with other music bands, organised a series of concerts on Middle Ages throughout Grosseto area, with guests who were expert of Medieval history who determined, on occasion of each event, the historical importance of the place where it has been carried out. The programmes of the music journey were theme wise, with medieval music, sacred and profane, vocal and instrumental music of later periods which, as “contrast”  or  “cultural contamination” go well  with the repertoire of ancient codes.  These events aim, among other, at the creation of new interest points for tourists who look for a deeper and more real travel experience. Therefore, it is possible to say that the intervention financed the coordination and the organisation of music events which could foster the dissemination and the knowledge on the cultural heritage of the involved area, as support to the non- seasonal tourist offer.
