The level of progress achievable in the Province of Grosseto is strongly influenced by the specific disadvantages of a territory which is conditional by several factors such as, in particular: the morphological characters, the infrastructures, the history of the settlement and of the socio- economical local dynamics. Today, the disadvantaged areas which are located inside the Province of Grosseto, has almost 220.000 hectares, and they are mainly concentrated in the territories of Comunità Montane, with 77% of their surface. On the other hand, the territory of the Province of Grosseto is still not very changed in its peculiar environmental characteristics, thanks to the minimally invasive interventions in the different working sectors and thanks to targeted safeguard works (such as the birth of preserved natural reserve which have been supported, in part, by the former activated Communitarian Initiatives, such as Leader Plus, for instance) which enabled to preserve a high level of animal and plant biodiversity, that is the real wealth of the territory.
